Critical Mass is a really good fun old school arcade game. The graphics are simple but some how very appling and the game play is smooth. In game music is just as you would expect and of a very high quality as is the sound. The craft comes with a number of weapons depending on the level of play but they aren't terribly exciting.

If I had to pick faults I would say that the game is too hard on all levels. On the easist level you are limited to two weapons with no power ups, energy or shields. As the levels get harder you get more weapons but also more critters. This results in the game being hard on all skill levels.

I would also like to see more flashes and bangs. The destruction of the critters could be met with more of a flash and perhaps some fire. More weapon upgrades would be nice as well. For example: glass bullets, the game appears to be developed using OpenGL so lets get some transparency in there. How about bullets with a fancy glow around them? They don't have to do anything different (although that would be nice) but it would add some serious eye candy quitte cheaply.

One other thing that I find annoying is the lack of lives. Two hits from a critter and your dead and have to start all over again. That makes each individual game last about 5 minutes. In my book that's not long enough. Half a dozen likes before a restart would be about right.

That review makes it sound like I can't stand the game but in acutual fact I love it. If I didn't enjoy it so much I wouldn't want improvements. Definatly one I will be keeping up to date.
