Over time I find that the most used applications list that appears above the standard menus in the KDE kicker (the start menu) gets filled up with applications that I have removed, applications that not longer work or applications that worked poorly in the past and now work fine. The last category is annoying because they are applications that only made it into the list because they kept crashing and needing to be restarted. I decided it was time for a clear out. Here's how to do it:
Open the file:
~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc
Towards the bottom you should see a section called [menus] which will contain a setting called RecentAppsStat. Clear the contents of this entry such that is looks like this:
RecentAppsStat=
You will need to log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.
I can't believe that KDE, with it's piles upon piles of settings, doesn't have a button to clear this list. Perhaps we will get one in KDE 4 which I can't wait to test drive.
