Cross Platform Problems
Q. I live in America / Australia / Other English speaking part of the world and want to use Refas but it crashes everytime it starts?
We have made a slight mistake which causes the software to incorrectly determine which resource set it should use. Therefore it will fail to find any resources and as you have experienced it will crash on loading.
This can be fixed two ways. The first is the best - wait for version 1.0.2 of Refas to be released. It should be released before 25/11/2002. The second way is to follow the description below and patch your Refas install. The file is tiny (7KB) and the whole process should take no more than 2 minutes.
We are assuming you have installed Refas on windows and that you chose the default install location. If not the instructions are very similar for other platforms.
- Open Explorer
- Go to C:\Program Files\refas
- You should see a file in that directory called "i18n.jar"
- Rename the file "i18n.jar" to "i18n.jar.old"
- Save this file into the "C:\Program Files\refas" directory as "i18n.jar".
Microsoft Problems
Q. Refas batch file wont run on Windows 98 "Out of environment space" message.
A. Windows 98 has a problem running dos programs that require more than small amount of memory (4MB). This is a limitation of the operating system and is described here. A possible work around is suggested which is briefly out lined below. CS Squared will shortly be releasing a windows native installer version of Refas that will over come this issue. Note this problem also occurs with Windows 95 it is currently unknown as to whether this works on 95
-
Right click on failing .bat file
-
Select Properties from popup menu
-
Select Memory tab
-
Change "Initial environment" from auto to at least 4096
-
Click OK
Q. The program appears to start but then fails to run and gives an error that mentions "Winsock" (primarily Windows 95)
A. The Java 2 SDK requires but does not include the Microsoft Winsock 2.0 library. It is extremely likely that your system already has Winsock 2.0 or later. However, it is possible that some Windows 95 systems have an older version of Winsock.
To check which version of Winsock you have, search for "winsock.dll". Then choose "Properties" from the File menu and click the Version tab.
If your Windows 95 machine doesn't have Winsock 2.0 or later. you can download the Winsock 2.0 from
here.
This
document contains information about how to determine if the Winsock 2.0 components are installed on a Windows 95 platform.
Help Set Problems
Q. Can the help set be viewed anywhere but in the software?
A. Yes the help set is also mirrored online here. It is currently the same as the help set delivered with the software. In the near future we intend to upgrade this help set and include information about advanced features.
