This portion of the web site is Graham Smith's submission for the VRML course run over the 1999/2000 year at Birmingham University, England.
The VRML worlds included in this site require Cosmo Player (or another VRML pluging) to be installed and working on your system.
The site (and especially the essay) is split in to several sections for ease of navigation and links can be found on the left. Links to the top pages can be found on the left also. If you get the chance (and you are viewing this site over the internet) I would really appreciate feedback.
Right so on with the project. All I will say is Enjoy...........
Since First Publishing...
This VRML world won the 2000 prize for best VRML project at Birmingham University (UK). This version has been slightly enhanced and the look and feel has been changed to bring it into line with the rest of the site (it was some horrible frontpage site before). You can see the original work here
Installing Required Software
First download cosmo player from here
I am using Mozlla 1.1 as the browser and unfortunatly this is not supported by the cosmo player plugin (which hasn't been developed for a number of years now). Fortunatly it is possible to get it working manually. The original instructions for installation can be found here
To install the plugin copy the files npcosmop211.dll and npcosmop211.jar to your Mozilla plugins folder (which can be found at ~\mozilla.org\Mozilla\Plugins where ~ is whereever you installed mozilla). This requires a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to be installed on you system and plugged in to Mozilla. I recommend the latest JVM plugin from Sun which can be found here
To get the java parts of the site working you have to include the file "npcosmop211.zip" in your classpath. There are numerous ways to achive this. I have modified the system variable CLASSPATH on myst system through Start>Settings>Control Panel>System Properties>Advanced>Environment Variables
