Well, probably the simplest way to make an octopus is to take a mummy octopus and a daddy octopus and rub them together. Wait a while and you get loads of little octopi. I don't have a mummy or daddy octopus at the moment so I can't try that technique out which means I am going to have to make one by hand*. Sigh.
Step 1 - Deciding What to Build the Octopus With
The first thing to do is decide what material to build / make your octopus with. Since I would like the octopus to be hugged I will make it soft so metal and wood are (probably) out. This poses a slight problem though, I'm good (well I like to think I am) with wood and metal and not so good with soft things like cloth. On reflection though I think it is going to have to be made of form of cloth. On to step 2.
Step 2 - Get Some Cloth
Now you could go online and read up on different types of cloth and become an expert so that you know exactly what you are going to buy before you get to the shop. Alternativly you could have not the faintest clue and just go and buy some soft stuff. I can't vouch for the first method because I went for the second and I ended up with some purple fleece material as it was the softest stuff they had.
Step 3 - Design Your Octopus
This step is a little easier because I can use teh comptuer to rattle out a design. I have had a look at a few other round things (a tomatoe teddy actually) and seen how other people make round things. Fingers crossed I can copy them.
* If you are interested in knowing how to keep an octopus the previous link is to quite an interesting article on the subject.
