We phoned a buildings insurance company today to find out if we would be able to get insurance on Dean Croft with the broken purlin. It looks like we will be able to once we have had the survey done. Apparently there are basically three levels of insurance that we could be offered depending on how bad the problem is. The first is regular buildings insurance which we would be offered if the engineer says that the loadings indicate that the roof is safe. The second is regular buildings insurance with the proviso that the beam is fixed in the near future. This would be offered to us if the engineer says that it needs to be fixed but there is no immediate danger to the property. Finally, they can offer us renovation insurance which would cover us if the engineer says that there is a substantial risk of failure in the near future.

As the beam has obviously been broken for a very long time I am fairly confident that we will fit into one of the first two options. I’m really hoping that we will be able to just get regular buildings insurance as money is getting a bit tight.

Worryingly our buyers have decided to come round again tomorrow. I hope they aren’t having second thoughts.  They have had a full building survey done now though so they have invested best part of £1000 in this place already. I can’t believe they would pull out at this point.

I was worrying about the fact that our buyers were coming round again so Hazel phoned the estate agents. Apparently they are coming round purely to measure up and think about decoration. Phew. That’s a huge weight off my mind.
