Turkey breast steaks are low in fat and very flavoursome. They also have the advantages of being cheap and easy to prepare. This meal is easily special enough to be served at a dinner party, and is best presented with steamed vegetables and new potatoes. I like to use gruyere cheese for this as it melts nicely and gives a pleasant nutty flavour which complements the turkey. If you can't get hold of prosciutto ham either use another type of ham (thin slices) or even bacon. The quantities shown in this recipe serves 2.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Place the turkey steaks into a sandwich bag or between two layers of cling film, and hit with a rolling pin to flatten and tenderise the meat (very good for removing stress!).
  2. Sprinkle the gruyere evenly over the two turkey steaks, and roll up the steaks like swiss rolls.
  3. Wrap the ham around the turkey and place the rolls onto a baking tray.
  4. Drizzle a little oil over the turkey steaks and place into an oven at 180 degrees C for approximately 30 minutes, or until the turkey is cooked through and the ham is very slightly browned on top.
  5. Serve immediately.
