A few more months have gone buy and I still haven't done any turning but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have finally sold our house in Southampton and are well through the process of buying a new house in Gloucester. Fingers crossed we will be in before Christmas so there is a slim chance that I will actually get a chance to have a turn before the start of the new year.

I've got a mountain of Woodturning magazines to read. I decided to hold off on reading them until I got the lathe set up again. It will feel like a present to myself to have so many things to try out.

I attended the 2007 AWGB woodturning conference earlier in the year and while I haven't had a chance to try out any of the ideas I saw there I am really glad that I went (it was strange being pretty much the youngest person there by about 30 years). I can't wait for the 2009 conference now, hopefully I will be good enough to really pick up some knowledge.

At the end of the conference they asked for volunteers to help with the running of the AWGB. While everyone was welcome they were particularly interested in trying to encourage some younger members to join the committee. I was thinking of maybe trying to join as I can help out with the running of the website and other computer related tasks.

The house we have bought is in desperate need of refurbishment so that is going to eat into my turning time quite a lot (as will work). I'm still planning to at least do a little turning everyday. The future is bright – the future is a whirling piece of wood!
